10  Examination of the legs –
Are there traces of Hepatophilic Virus in Your Body?
Hepatic edema is an obvious symptom of virus hepatitis. It is a pity that some people often mistake hepatic edema as obesity and resort to a slimming program. Among the 2000 cases of abnormal dull sound boundaries examined in Hong Kong, 539 are of hepatic edema, making up 27%.

It is very easy to discover hepatic edema. Apart from thick tongue, with obvious teeth imprints discussed in previous chapters, it is necessary to pay attention to the following:

whether the legs are dropsical

Liver troubles often lead to anemia, hypoproteinemia, endocrine dysfunction, water-electrolyte imbalance, hepatic edema caused by the dysfunction of the liver. Hepatic edema is the principal cause of secondary obesity. Examination could find that the pressing of the tibia may leave obvious imprints.

Revealing or varicose veins

Virus hepatitis may cause blood obstruction of the portal vein system, resulting in inferior vena cava reflux, thus forcing the pressure of the portal vein system to rise. When the liver veins are narrow or obstructed, the inferior vena cava reflux obstruction and the pressure of inferior vena cava reflux may occur. As the limbs veins are obstructed, the limbs seem to be very thick (turnip legs), giving the feeling of distension. The depressive edema may be exacerbated, resulting in revealing or varicosity of the veins of the limbs, the varicose veins on the lower legs and pigmentation, expansion of the subbutaneous capillaries. If phlebothrombosis occurs, it may cause chronic ulcer of the legs.
